UPDATE: Suspect Extradited To North Carolina Months After Allegedly Shooting 18-Year-Old Waffle House Employee

Following a four-month manhunt, Florwer Carlin Lizano Jr. has been extradited to North Carolina after allegedly shooting and killing an 18-year-old Waffle House employee, Burlie Dawson Locklear III, in September 2024.

More Details On Florwer Carlin Lizano Jr. Being Extradited To North Carolina

According to USA Today, Lizano Jr. was extradited from Virginia to North Carolina on Tuesday, April 8. Furthermore, the 39-year-old has reportedly been charged with first-degree murder.

USA Today notes that Lizano Jr. was also denied bond on Wednesday, April 9. His lawyer, Chas Post III, reportedly told the outlet that the 39-year-old is “cloaked in the presumption of innocence.” Furthermore, the attorney alleged that Lizano Jr. only fled North Carolina because he and his family were allegedly receiving death threats.

“He didn’t even know he was charged with a crime until the threats came and until he was posted all over the local news. Just because law enforcement said he did it, doesn’t mean he did it,” the lawyer reportedly asserted.

As The Shade Room previously reported, the fatal incident occurred on September 13, 2024. Lizano Jr. was reportedly waiting for his food around 12:30 a.m. Furthermore, he reportedly became “agitated” with employees. Then, before leaving the establishment with his food, he reportedly fired multiple gunshots.

“He killed my kid over grits and eggs,” Elizabeth Locklear, the aunt of Burlie Dawson Locklear III, reportedly stated. “How do you get so upset over grits and eggs to where you want to take somebody’s life?”

Per USA Today, Lizano Jr. was captured by authorities on January 24, 2025, in Portsmouth, Virginia.

According to the outlet, the 39-year-old’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 23. Meanwhile, Locklear III’s aunt has shared her thoughts on her family receiving justice for the 18-year-old’s death.

“There’s no more running. There’s no more trying to fight to get out or not being able to come back to this county to get charged for what he has done. He’s done the crime, now he’s got to pay the price,” she reportedly stated.
