Gettysburg College recently made headlines after reports surfaced about an alleged racial attack on a student-athlete. It was alleged that the “n-word” was etched into a student’s chest with a sharp object.
However, Black student leaders are now coming forward, alleging that isn’t the full story.
The Shade Room’s Justin Carter is sitting down with the students to delve into the incident and the campus’ response on ‘TSR Investigates.’
Here’s What Allegedly Happened To The Student-Athlete At Gettysburg College
According to Carter, there are less than 5% of Black students at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania. So when reports surfaced that there was a racial attack at the campus on September 6, the incident garnered national attention. Additionally, students subsequently addressed the institution’s president and administrators with their frustration.
The victim reportedly alleged he had been etched during a gathering with the school’s swim team. He was allegedly the only “person of color” present. The following day, the victim allegedly displayed the mark, and the team’s captains reported it.
Ultimately, both the unidentified attacker and the victim were suspended pending the outcome of an investigation.
Did The Investigation Hold The Right People Responsible For The Alleged Incident Involving The “N-Word”?
Despite the alleged events, two Black student leaders at Gettysburg College are asserting that the incident is not what it seems.
“I understand [from] our meetings that he [the victim] asked another student… to do this to him,” one Black student leader named Justin W. explained to Carter.
Another leader, Obaapa Danquah-Smith, backed Justin’s claims that the alleged victim “showed off” his mark.
According to Carter, questions now remain about why Gettysburg College nor the student’s family escalated the incident further to the police. Scroll above to watch as the leaders share their speculation about the motive behind the alleged racial attack. Additionally, a spokesperson for the college shares an update on the involved students while Carter details the recent actions of the victim’s family.
